Roger Montgomery
I came to yoga as a teenager of around 16 or 17 years old, it changed my life in a very positive way. While at first I enjoyed the physical benefits, I soon learned that it went much deeper than the asanas. It was a process of self (or non-self) discovery. My ego took a beating, and I am happy to say that it still enjoys a good smush now and again, as the process helps me see what's going on within, and that there is truly nowhere to hide from truth. It's like shining a mirror and seeing the undesirable, and this reflection helps me to soften into the presence of that which is undesirable, to soften and finally to surrender to that which simply is.
To be sure, I feel ever more the student and more so as I've begun teaching asana. Again it teaches me to soften and accept the moment for what it is and smilingly move on. Easier said than done but that is why we call it practice. So the benefits have become more clear, and as I shift away more and more from the focus of the physical I find that the physical improves, I find the softening into each moment a welcome release, there is nowhere to be or to go, just to remain present with the body, the mind, and their fluctuations.
More and more this Yoga carries off the mat and into everyday life, it gives me great joy! I hope to bring this joy into my teaching and learning. It is a true blessing to see the wonders of this process and I appreciate this opportunity to share the love and happiness that flow from it.
I wish to give thanks to all of my teachers past, present and future and to all beings who dedicate their lives to the improvement of others.
See you on the mat!
May all Beings be Happy May all Beings Enjoy real Peace May all beings be liberated Peace Peace Peace
Sincerely (but not too Seriously),
Roger ;)
