Every wakeful step, every mindful act is the direct path to awakening. Wherever you go, there you are.
~ Buddha's Little Instruction Book by Jack Kornfield

Christine Cox (née Carr)

I was on my path as a Contemporary dancer and choreographer when I began practicing yoga in Maine, USA in 1995. My journey as a mover started to change, my perception of success started to widen. I became aware of habits that hindered or aligned my life to grow and the need to unbind ideas by planting seeds of exploration and intention. A degree in dance/kinesiology gave me the ability to perform and choreograph for over 10 years. Dancing taught me to operate the mind and body together as a holistic instrument, to tune in to what is going on. In 2007 I received a diploma in Holistic Nutrition. Which taught me that there is no one path but many tools to lead a life of balance.

Over the years I have always felt a resonating truth found in yoga scriptures and teachings. I explored multi-disciplinary approaches of Hatha yoga and meditation with several gifted teachers. An intimate study of Ashtanga yoga guided my path to India to study with Sri K Pattabhi Jois and grandson Sharath. It was from this experience that I recognized the greatness of a formal practice. The idea that the practice was rigid was implanted by other people, the way I experienced it was so much different, and I had to find out for myself. It took the journey to realize that you practice what you receive from the experience and for me that has never been rigid, and there has always been room to be creative and explore.

I have been teaching since 2001, connecting my passion for classical teachings of yoga with my experience of body awareness of alignment knowledge. I have taught workshops, classes and privates in Calgary, across Alberta and the United States. I am grateful to have studied with many wonderful teachers and continue to embrace the teachings of Michael Stone.

I recently became a mother to a beautiful little girl. Once again this practice has changed as life has changed. It now involves dirty diapers and waking up for 2am feedings. Now more than ever I feel the balance yoga brings to ones life in every capacity.
