When attending the Alberta College of Art, I became interested in Oil Painting, Art History and comparative religious studies. This led to interests in Jungian Psychology, Mysticism, Alchemy,Tarot, Qabalah and Tibetan Buddhism. My first real exposure to the science of Yoga was on a trip to India and Nepal in 1996. In Varanasi, the city of light and death I learned of Patanjali's 8 limbs and about 10 simple yet powerful hatha asanas. On attending my first Ashtanga style class at the then Yoga in Motion in 2000, I knew I had found what I had been searching for.. I was certified in summer of 2001.. I have been teaching 12-16 classes a week ever since. I have learned a lot from numerous trips to Hawaii to learn directly from Ashtanga pioneers David Williams and Nancy Gilgoff.. My Primary Calgary teachers have been Danielle Pechie and Jeff & Harmony Litchy!! Other amazing Calgary teachers that have inspired me are Rockne White, Lerrita Rubinoff, Tracy Mann, and Colin Zak among others.. Most recently I have found so much inspiration and spirituality from Edmonton's own yoga master Rameen Payrow.. He is awesome if you have never had the pleasure. I have also learned from David Swensen, Sharath, Darby, Hart Lazer and Fiona Stang.. Yoga has taken me to New York city's Jivamukti Studios, Mexico and Hawaii and Thailand as well.. After at least 10 years I am still learning so much about asana and yoga philosophy.. I am so blessed to go to work and love what I do and be around so many cool and beautiful yogi seekers! I recently turned 40 years old and feel stronger in body and mind then I did when I was 30. This yoga stuff really works if you just be patient and keep stepping on your mat with an open mind and heart week after week. Love and lotus light Rob ..
